The Tribes
A Tribe is a collection of individuals with the same pure magic type, which happens to also influence everything else about them. It also acts as a political unit, with each Tribe making up a portion of the Grand Council in Unity. Tribes are named after the head family of the entire unit and individuals of a Tribe are referred to by the surname of the head family. Each Tribe has its own unique powers and abilities, as well as styles and cultures. Major Tribes are usually bound to their land, as they do not have legal permission to migrate at will (unless it is to Unity). Wandering Tribes, like the name would suggest, wander.
Here are the academic breakdowns of each known Tribe.
Major Tribes:
Sunstrider
The Sunstriders were one of the first Tribes to emerge, alongside their sister Tribe, the Shadowstalkers. Their power comes from Light, and all abilities are related to it aside from the telekinesis all cats have. They can manipulate it, make it brighter, or even focus it into beams. They are most powerful in direct sunlight. Their cultural values center around truth, justice, and righteousness. Their House colors are typically bright oranges and yellows, with pelts being cream or ginger and their capital being Truth in Light of Deception.
Shadowstalker
The Shadowstalkers came into existence alongside the Sunstriders as part of the pair of opposites. Their power comes from Shadow, and all abilities derive from and are related to it, aside from general abilities. Shadow is their bread and butter, and can be manipulated in all sorts of ways. Shadowstalkers are even capable of melding into it. Their cultural values coincide with self-interest, retribution, and pride. Their House colors are black and various shades of purple, whereas pelts are always a deep black. Their capital is Deceit in the Name of Protection.
Skywalker
The Skywalkers came from Heaven itself, the product of Light and Shadow, the opposite to Earth. Their magic derives from Heaven and Sky itself, giving them aerokinesis and the gift of walking on clouds, as well as flight, aside from average cat powers. They value freedom, creativity, and philosophy. Their House colors are white and sky blue, whereas pelt colors can be stark white or pale grey.
Earthshaker
The Earthshakers burst out of the Earth, a product of Light and Shadow, the opposite to the magical aspect of Heaven. Their magic comes from deep within the Earth itself, giving them many forms of geokinesis and magnetokinesis, in addition to normal cat abilities. Also, as well as being the only ones capable of enchanting Earth-element things, they also are generally quite powerful, being born very strong and durable. This makes them suited to hard work in mines and forges. Their House colors are brown and gold, with pelt colors ranging from coal black to earthen brown. Most calico cats or tortoiseshells come from the Earthshaker Tribe.
Firebringer
Firebringers were born from the Flame and Flame alone, which in turn came from the clash of Heaven and Earth. Their magic is tied to heat and Fire, which blesses them with pyrokinesis and anything derivative of Fire. They are known to commonly be capable of making fire out of nothing or making things hotter, which makes them great forge companions for Earthshakers. They are the third physically strongest Tribe on average, being quite bulky in build. They are also immune to fire and extremely hot temperatures. Their House colors are red and orange, with pelts usually being a russet color. They also usually lack tails, only having stubs, if anything at all.
Icecrafter
Icecrafters are said to have been made from Ice that was produced by the conflict between Heaven and Earth. Their magic is tied to bitter cold and pure Ice, which blesses them with cryokinesis and anything derivative of Ice. They are completely capable of drawing ice from the air or freezing water they come into contact with, even being able to enchant ice to never melt. Their ability to make things frigidly cold also makes them excellent surgeons, with their enchanted ice being coveted for beautiful sculptures. Though, they are the second most fragile Tribe next to the Peacemakers, being rather small and thin in composition, despite their thick fur. Their House colors are white and ice blue, with pelts only ever being white. Their tails are notably longer than other Tribes' tails.
Dunerunner
The Dunerunner tribe is not part of the myth of creation, though there is another tale of how they formed. It is said that when Earthshakers and Skywalkers were at war, an Earthshaker sent a Skywalker cat crashing into the earth. The Skywalker died, but the magic of the Skywalkers augmented the earth in which he was buried, making it loose and dry. The war ended with many deaths on both sides, and several cats of both Tribes gathered where the single Skywalker cat had died, forming a village that would one day grow into the Jewel of the Sands, which became their capital city. They value forgiveness, teamwork and longevity. Their power is from Sand. They can manipulate it, run faster in it, and can see clearly in sandstorms. Their pelt colors are typically tan and cream and their House colors are very similar.
Seabreaker
The Seabreakers, like the Dunerunners, are not found in the myth of creation, but there is a legend of how they came to be. The legend goes that the Icecrafters and the Firebringers were at war, but the Prince of the Firebringers and the Princess of the Icecrafters fell in love. They were discovered, and the Prince was killed before the Princess' very eyes. She fled to the west, and it is said her tears formed the rivers and the ocean. The kittens that the Princess gave birth to were called Seabreakers, for how they stopped her tears. Born of fire and ice, they were one with the Water, which is where they get their power. Their capital is Withstanding Against All Storms is their capital, and they value acceptance, freedom of choice and willingness to change. They can manipulate the Water, breathe underneath it, and blend into it. Their pelt colors are typically bluish-gray and their House colors are green and deep blue.
Wandering (Minor) Tribes
Spiritmender
From Fire and Ice came Life. Spiritmenders are actually a rather large Wandering Tribe, rivaling the Warcriers in size. The only reason they do not have a territory for themselves is because they simply did not want to fight for it, valuing the lives of others over their own lives. Their magic is centered around Life and everything to do with it. They can heal on touch, although they cannot control whether or not they do it. They can also alleviate most ailments (unless they are terminal) and nullify death curses, depending on how strong the curse is. Most of the time they work as doctors, fixing surface wounds and such. However, they cannot be surgeons due to their uncontrollable healing touch. Despite this, they can predict the coming of new life and the genders of unborn children, with limited accuracy. Their House colors are white and green, with pelts being light brown or ginger.
Doomspeller
From Fire and Ice came Death. The Doomspellers are the second smallest of the Wandering Tribes, having been pushed to near-extinction due to wars over land and resources. In the end, they came out with no territory and thus became nomads, going from place to place in groups or alone. Their power comes from Death itself, meaning their magic has everything to do with it and ways to bring it. Some powers of theirs include Claws of Death or speaking curses that later take the lives of those they cursed. The ability to kill most with a single purposeful touch or with a few words makes them veritable assassins, as well as their visual similarity to Shadowstalkers. They are also capable of predicting death with some accuracy. Their House colors are black and green, with their pelt colors usually being either black or very dark.
Peacemaker
Peacemakers are one of the smallest of the Wandering Tribes, second to last in the myth of creation. Even though they have a place in said myth, they have no land, as they were unwilling to fight for it, given their nature. Their magic taps into Peace and the things that are related to it, which make them poor fighters with little offensive capabilities, but also make them great artists, lawyers, and diplomats. Their magic is more passive, making them very smooth talkers and more empathetic than any other Tribe. Their House colors are brown and beige, with their pelt colors being any combination or variation of beige and tan.
Warcrier
Warcriers are much larger than the Peacemakers, but are still relatively small compared to the major Tribes. They also claim a place in the myth of creation, being the last mentioned, but have no territory, as they were driven to near-extinction long ago by other Tribes who desired their land. Their magic is entirely for the sake of War, as their name would imply, and all abilities pour into their murderous capabilities. They are stronger than most other Tribes, with their strongest outclassing some Earthshakers. Their magic also makes them burlier, the most bulky of all Tribes. Their powers make them excellent warriors and laborers, which is where they are most commonly found working. Their House colors are red and brown, with pelt colors ranging from solid dark brown to just plain brown tabby.
